What good is knowledge if you don't share it?
Here are some homemade beauty secrets that just can't be bottled.

Avocado Face Mask

Avocado fruit is rich in vitamins and minerals; such as, zinc, potassium, sodium, magnesium, copper, iron, calcium and vitamins A, B, E and K.  Avocado oil is a good source of collagen, which is an agent responsible for maintaining skin elasticity.  Honey is antimicrobial and rich in healing properties.  This mask will make your skin young and supple.

Recipe:
• ¼ Organic Avocado
• 1 teaspoon Organic Plain Yogurt
• ½ teaspoon Organic Honey

Slice avocado and scoop out approximately ¼ of the pulp. Crush it with a fork until creamy.  Add yogurt and honey.  Mix well.  Evenly apply to clean dry face and neck.  Relax and enjoy for 15-30 minutes.  Remove excess with tissue paper so you don’t clog up your sink.  Rinse face with lukewarm water and pat dry.  There is no need to moisturize afterwards.  The natural oils in the avocado will do the job for you.  And yes, you can eat any leftover mask.  It’s yummy!!!

Salt Scrub

Exfoliate, cleanse and hydrate all at once with this luxurious scrub.  Rich in minerals, Himalayan sea salt promotes cell health and vitality.  Massaging ourselves stimulate our senses and nurture self love.  Use this scrub once or twice a week and believe me, your skin will glow!

Recipe:
• ½ cup Light Coarse Himalayan Pink Salt
• ½ cup Light Coarse Sea Salt
• 1 tablespoon Organic Sweet Almond Oil

Optional: 2-3 drops of Organic Lavender Essential Oil

Measure ingredients into a container that has a lid.  Preferably a plastic container since you will be storing it in your bathroom.  Mix all ingredients well.  If desired, add essential oil and mix again.  Once you are wet in the shower, massage entire body with light small circular movements.  Rinse with water.  No need for soap or moisturizing after the shower.  Don’t hesitate to personalize this recipe to your needs.  For instance, substitute Lavender Essential Oil for Sweet Orange Essential Oil and change your salt scrub from relaxing to invigorating!  Sweet Almond Oil can also be replaced by Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil or any other light-weight oil.  When buying oils look for cold pressed and hexane-free.  Food grade and organic are always a plus.

Head Lice Hair Oil

Has your little cub ever had lice?  Mine have!  Don't give in to toxic treatments or prescription medication.  This natural remedy works like a charm!

Recipe:
• 2 oz Organic Sweet Almond Oil
• 20 drops Organic Lavender Essential Oil
• 10 drops Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil
• 5 drops Organic Peppermint Essential Oil (Optional - not recommended for children under 3 years old)

Mix ingredients together in a lid bottle.  Add oil to a cotton ball, finger tips or directly on scalp.  Massage entire scalp until hair roots are saturated.  Wrap head with a shower cap (suffocation is part of the treatment) and leave it on for as long as possible, even over night (don't worry this is a hydrating hair treatment along with head lice massacre).  With a lice comb, remove all the lice and nits.  Wash hair as usual.  For lice comb, I recommend the "Terminator Lice and Nit Comb".

Tea Tree Toothpowder

Dry brushing might feel weird at first; but if you stop to think, foaming from our mouths should feel even worse.  This recipe is simple, yet effective.  Arrowroot powder is soothing to mucous membranes (like the ones in our mouths and gums).  It is completly safe to ingest, and actually a very nutritious food that is often found in baby formulas.  Baking soda is a natural teeth whitener and powerful enough to treat bad breath.  Sea salt is rich in mineral, a natural teeth whitener, and it reduces inflammation.  Last but not least, Tea Tree Essential Oil is among many things an antiseptic.  Finally, an affordable toothpowder that is not harmful when ingested!

Recipe:
• 4 Tbsp Arrowroot Powder
• 6 tsp Baking Soda
• 2 tsp Sea Salt
• 8 drops Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil

Mix dry ingredients in a glass jar or bowl (stainless steal is ok too).  Add essential oil dispersing drops away from each other (not right on top of each other).  Mix with a spoon crushing the essential oil droplets against the side of the bowl.  Your toothpowder is ready to use!  To use, wet toothbrush and lightly touch toothpowder.  The taste will mellow-out after a few days as the essential oil evaporates.  Try to not leave water drops on the toothpowder to avoid contamination.

Optional: Replace Tea Tree for Peppermint Essential Oil or use both. When using both decrease total amount to 6 drops. Essential oils can become intensified when combined.  Please note that Peppermint Essential Oil is NOT recommended during the first-trimester of pregnancy.

Note: If you have braces or permanent retainers remove baking soda from recipe since it could react to the metal and stain teeth (Oh no!).  Increase Sea Salt to 3tsp instead.
